"Really, Tim? Is this something we need? We were doing just fine without it before." Well, Annie, it will help keep me from running over my chainsaw - again.... Motivation comes from various sources. |
Neighbor Ron has once again obtained some giant turkey legs for the smoker. We both think they look more like dinosaur legs! |
"Oh my, Oh my! I'm your friend for life, Ronnie!" Annie gets the spoils but she is ever hopeful she might one day win the big jackpot. |
The Oakdale Mini Walled Rose Garden project is still going. My roses in grow-bags seem to be happy as clams so far. Spring isn't too far away, so we'll know how they did soon. I'm hopeful! |
We haven't totally escaped winter. This scene is just beautiful. Hoar frost is a thing. You have to see it quick, because just as soon as the wind picks up or the sun starts shinning, it goes away. |
Even Annie seemed to enjoy the special sights. |
How can you not love this? No mosquitoes, no sweat, Nature's beauty. |
My camera just wouldn't stop clicking. |
So it has been cold and it is winter. Inside, I've been having fun converting an old 1872 W.F. Barnes Velocipede lathe into an ornamental lathe. Mine is a #5. A real Holtzapffel Ornamental Lathe recently sold for $188,500 plus shipping and auctioneer's fees. At that price, I decided it was time to do a little handy work and convert the old pedal lathe I already had on hand. OSHA? Who need OSHA with a lathe like this. What could possibly go wrong? |
A hardware store bolt, a little cherry wood from the furniture stockpile, and some time at the lathe - and we have a new stud chuck ready to mount. |
It would be nice for the Chiefs to be able to get their revenge for their Super Bowl I loss.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great to see the Chiefs and the Packers go at it again!
DeleteAs if you 'never' had much going on; ha! We might get our first (and last) significant snowfall of the winter tonight. I'm dreaming of a white . . . Valentine's? Speaking of Valentine's, you can just spirit that gorgeous pie here for me to serve to my guys. What is the layer atop the cherries? – Michelle at Boulderneigh
ReplyDeleteLaugh when you can! What looks like caramel was supposed to be streusel.... I mixed it all together with hot butter, and it turned to soup. I poured it on the pie anyway. Actually, it is pretty but it wasn't too good. I ended up taking it off and just enjoying the pie. I'm not much of a dessert chef (This was my first try.). Cheers!
DeleteI agree wholeheartedly with Michelle. "Not much to report?" Ha. If I had as "not much to report" as you I'd be blogging more often than I do. Love your new "phone" addition and, wow, that fake fireplace is lovely. Thanks for the pics of the hoar frost. We get that occasionally but it's been a long time now. Your Annie is so talented, I'm sure you could teach her to take pictures of you for posting. I'm sure she'd be glad to add that to her list of duties to help. ;o)
ReplyDeleteI have followed the lead of another blogger who has these dogs. She has a rule that whenever they can fasten their own seat belt and turn the key by themselves, she will let them drive. I think the same rule applies to cameras: When Annie can turn it on and take the pic herself, she has my permission. Otherwise, I enjoy my privacy. Keep on! Spring isn't too far away.
DeleteYour Winter landscape scenery is beautiful. Fantastic epic Winter wonderland. Your great grandmother was right about soot from the fireplace. I'm sure your new fire place would meet and even exceed all her criteria as well as please her greatly. Congratulations on your lathe restoration project. It's is looking good.
ReplyDeleteOur Wisconsin house had 2 real fireplaces. We loved them. They are a little dirty, but they are so enjoyable. But, Press on! Thanks for the comments.
DeleteHey, Tim, Darrel here.... man, I have that same phone hanging out in the car building side of my shop. I bought it with my dad from a pawn shop when I was about 10. My mom loved that thing so I keep it and a large picture of mom and dad watching over me when do our builds. Just sold my custom pickup truck and it will be living in sunny southern Florida. Drop in over the next month on Facebook and you will see our wrecking crew converting a Dodge Charger Police Pursuit into our new shop truck....
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I love following along on your builds. Cheers!
DeleteThat was me agreeing with Michelle. I'm getting frustrated in that so many times now my comments on blogs turn up as "Anonymous" rather than my own identity. Maybe if I understood technology more . . . Mama Pea
ReplyDeleteLife is full of mysteries! I think you need to be logged into your Google account to have a name - I think.... I used to get notification when Michelle posted. No longer. Frustrations abound. Regardless, Keep up the good work!
DeleteI loved the hoar frost, too, with a few pics. Your projects are looking great. I'm back from California and sitting in a SMC room all weekend. Let's visit soon! BTW I believe everything about Annie. We're dogsitting and what personalities they have.
