'Twas the Night Before....

"Before what, Tim? Before what? Spit it out buddy! I can't wait to hear - before WHAT?" This will be Annie Oakley's first real Christmas and she's probably pretty excited. |
It has been a crazy year, but this is Annie a summer ago. She obviously had the attitude, but she was just too little to know about Christmas fun. |
Just below the surface, is OJ's surprise. Annie still hasn't figured out where his knives come from. She does know he has knives, and they are in his feet somewhere! |
Really! Them was serious birds.... |
We soaked them in a curing brine overnight, then added some smoking meat rub seasonings - and then in the smoker they went. |
Merry christmass Tim, or "Prettige kerstdagen" as we say in the Netherlands. Lets hope for a great and bit better 2021.

Thanks, and to you, too!
DeleteHope you're having a good Christmas, Tim. I really enjoyed your post and have decided to look into getting a smoker. Those turkey legs sound impressive! Happy 2021.
ReplyDeleteMine is electric, and I love it. I've had it several years and have learned smoking is an art. My Grandma Chlorus was an artist in the kitchen. She and one of her sisters ran restaurants. Corn cobs was what they used for their famous smoked hams! (Nobody knew, because they wouldn't tell.) It is easy to get too much smoke. Use it as a 'seasoning' and you'll be well advised. Go for it!
DeleteI'll bet you can gaze into Annie's eyes as long as she'll let you; what a beautiful face! Since Poppy was born on 12/16/19, this really IS her first Christmas and she thought it was grand. Having a playdate with a doggy friend would put her over the top, but all the other dogs' people are busy with Christmas things and it's very wet outside anyway. Here's to joy, peace, love, hope – and animal companionship throughout our whole lives!
ReplyDeleteHere Here! Annie's intense eyes are hypnotizing. What is a little scary is that I can almost sense that she is analyzing me and trying to learn all she can about me when she is locked on. She's smart!
DeleteI'm always struck by how parallel Annie and Poppy's faces are. Life without animal friends would be so dull and boring. We're all part of one great world - and each has his or her own place and jobs to do. Cheers and peace
Loved your post. I have 3 cats and a dog with me right now. And a grandson. Great mix. Merry Christmas to you too!! Sure hope to travel this coming summer! Stay safe. Sure hope we can be vaccinated soon. Thank you for your positiveness. Cheryle
ReplyDeleteKids and pets - what more can you ask for? I'm waiting for the jab, too. Maybe summer will be better. Thanks for reading!
DeleteWhat a delightful post! Annie is an intense looking puppet....and as the owner of a (sadly passed on) Border Collie, I know intense! OJ has his own intenseness, that of complete resting. Good farm animals. I'm so glad I found your blog!
ReplyDeleteYes, Annie is intense! She's a happy dog, and never grouchy (I will not tolerate grouchy dogs here at Oakdale Farm). We had a 'Lassie' collie here when we first moved to the farm. He was a wonder and a joy. He lived a long life (17) and was with us every day. Miss him still. OJ? Well, he is a dormant bag of rocks most of the time - until he absolutely EXPLODES with quickness once he has had enough of Miss Oakley. She will never learn, it seems....
DeleteAnnie has such a beautiful and expressive face :-) Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you, too! Annie is expressive. Her ears really tell her thoughts. She's always 'on' and you can usually sense that she is thinking about the 'next' thing she wants to do. Fun.
